Maori are native Polynesian populations of New Zealand. They would have settled down by successive waves from the viiie there century. They are, at the dawn of the year 2000, more than 600 000 to which it is necessary to add a Diaspora about 90 000 persons on whom a great majority live in Australia.

New Zealand, in English New Zealand, in Maori of New Zealand Aotearoa, is a country of Oceania, in the Southwest of the Pacific Ocean, constituted by two main islands (the island of the North and the island of the South), and of numerous much smaller islands, in particular the island Stewart and islands Chatham.

Situated in approximately 2 000 km from Australia from which she  is separated by the Tasman Sea, New Zealand is very isolated geographically. This isolation allowed the development of an endemic flora and a fauna very rich and varied, going huge kauri to insects weta and by way of kaponga and kiwi, these two last ones being symbols of the country.

The population is mainly of European origin, whereas the Maori train  the most numerous minority. The non-Maori peoples of Polynesian origin, as well as the Asiatics, also represent important minorities, particularly in the urban regions.

The haka is a traditional shape of dance Maori, a dance accompanied with shouts, often in connotation warrior. It is originally a dance used by Maori to intimidate their enemies.
